WQIS: Reflection & Projection
“We are made wise not by the recollection of our past, but by the responsibility for our future.” George Bernard Shaw
This summer marks the Water Quality Insurance Syndicate’s fiftieth anniversary. While there is time for reflection, the Syndicate has one eye on the present and the other eye on the future.
The strength of the Syndicate today is an attestation to the continued value provided by past and current leadership, subscriber members, broker partners, our own independent response experts, industry partners, and of course our valued assureds – some of which have supported and been with WQIS for decades.
We are proud to report that the Syndicate continues to be comprised of highly rated and experienced Insurers (https://www.wqis.com/about-wqis/subscribers/) , is well-financed, assisted by knowledgeable committees, can boast top tier assureds, and is highly regarded worldwide.
On reflection, we are most proud of our ability to deliver when and where it counts. WQIS considers service and support to its assured’s as the main priority, along with our ability to quickly respond and assist when an assured is in need, and to provide loss prevention expertise year-round.
While these are difficult times, and while we may not have been able to attend normal industry events in person, we would like to share with you the following which occurred over the past year:
While we celebrate the Syndicate’s 50 year anniversary, we also cheer the year anniversary of the opening of our Houston, Texas office. Vessel owners and operators based in the Gulf region are critical to the Industries we all serve. WQIS is extremely excited for the continued success of the office;
Within the past few months, our New York office completed a move to the historic, elegant, and newly renovated 55 Broad Street. While we can’t say the move needed much passage planning, 60 Broad to 55 Broad, we thank all involved for their hard work;
WQIS provided well-reasoned comments in response to the U.S.C.G.’s Notice of Proposed Rulemaking promoting to expand its regulations on vessel financial responsibility in respect of tank vessels and add further requirements to vessel operators and financial guarantors. (COFR providers);
We remain a very active member of The American Waterways Operators, AWO, and have even attended meetings in various locations during the pandemic;
The Syndicate supported several charity events including – “Wheels for Wings”, where a former colleague engaged in a cross country bike ride to benefit Tri-State Bird Rescue. Tri-State rehabilitates wild birds and wildlife that are in need;
The Syndicate’s managers look forward to meeting our Assureds again in person and we have begun some light travel. The office is staffed and we remain available at any time. It is with great excitement that we look to the future.
