Justin A. Mongello, President
Justin joined WQIS after functioning as East Region Leader, SVP for Zurich Global Corporate Marine responsible for the New York and Atlanta Offices. He brings twenty years of underwriting and management experience in the marine insurance industry. Prior to Zurich, Justin worked for Swiss Reinsurance America Corp. and Liberty International Underwriters.
Justin is a graduate of SUNY Maritime College and holds a degree in Marine Transportation.
John J. Hassett, Chief Financial Officer
John is the Chief Financial Officer and Secretary of Water Quality Insurance Syndicate and of Wall Street Marine, Inc., a WQIS subsidiary. He has been a leader at WQIS since 1996.
Prior to joining WQIS, John worked as a financial analyst at the Continental Insurance Company and as an accountant at E.F. Hutton and Company. He earned a B.S. in Economics at Rutgers University and an MBA at Rider University. John is also a member of the Society of Insurance Financial Management.
Ryan A. Puttick, Senior Vice President, Chief Claims Officer
Ryan A. Puttick is a Senior Vice President & Chief Claims Officer at the Water Quality Insurance Syndicate (WQIS), and is based in New York, New York. He is a graduate of the United States Merchant Marine Academy, and is an attorney admitted in New York and New Jersey.
Ryan has nearly twenty years of experience in the field of marine insurance and maritime law. Ryan joined the claims department of the Water Quality Insurance Syndicate in 2013 where he manages marine pollution claims throughout the entire claim life cycle from initial response to prompt and accurate resolution, and recovery when applicable. He also directs and manages relevant litigation involving the Syndicate, and its Assureds.
Ryan spearheaded the WQIS team that created an enhanced Certificate of Financial Responsibility (COFR) product and he co-authored the WQIS COFR policy form.
Prior to joining WQIS, Ryan handled claims for Charles Taylor P&I Management (Americas), Inc., the managers of the Standard P&I Club Ltd, one of the thirteen International Group P&I Clubs.
Ryan’s most recent position at the Club was Claims Director, and he was responsible for controlling P&I and Defense claims for numerous U.S. Flag Owners and Operators. In this position, Ryan managed diverse marine claims based both in the U.S. and worldwide including cargo damage / shortage, collision, pollution, property damage, crew and passenger death / injury, and charter party disputes. Amongst other notable claims, Ryan handled the multiple P&I claims and multijurisdictional litigation resulting from the piracy of a U.S. Flag vessel off Somalia in April of 2009.
He has significant mediation and arbitration experience, as well as having participated in a vast number of court conferences and trials throughout the United States in both Federal and State Courts. Ryan has also worked at a leading New York maritime law firm and is a Proctor member of the Maritime Law Association of the United States.
Harry Diamond, Executive Consultant
Harry has worked in the marine insurance industry for over 30 years functioning first as a company broker and underwriter and eventually becoming claims manager for a major American flag tanker operator. Since 1997, he served as Vice President of Claims for WQIS.
Harry is a member of the American Association of Average Adjusters, the Marine Insurance Claims Adjusters, the Maritime Law Association and a Board Member of the American Waterway Operators. He holds an Associate degree in Risk Management and graduated from LaSalle University with B.A. degrees in Social Studies Education and History.
